Postdoctoral Researcher/Project Researcher, Synthesis, characterization and applications of carbon nanostructures
The University of Eastern Finland, UEF, is one of the largest multidisciplinary universities in Finland. We offer education in nearly one hundred major subjects, and are home to approximately 15,000 students and 2,500 members of staff. We operate on three campuses in Joensuu, Kuopio and Savonlinna. In international rankings, we are ranked among the leading universities in the world.
The Faculty of Science and Forestry operates on the Kuopio and Joensuu campuses of the University of Eastern Finland. The mission of the faculty is to carry out internationally recognised scientific research and to offer research-education in the fields of natural sciences and forest sciences. The faculty invests in all of the strategic research areas of the university. The faculty’s environments for research and learning are international, modern and multidisciplinary. The faculty has approximately 3,800 Bachelor’s and Master’s degree students and some 490 postgraduate students. The number of staff amounts to 560. http://www.uef.fi/en/lumet/etusivu
We are now inviting applications for
a Postdoctoral Researcher/Project Researcher position (Synthesis, characterization and applications of carbon nanostructures), Department of Environmental and Biological Science, Kuopio Campus
The Postdoctoral Researcher/Project Researcher position is placed in the Fine Particle and Aerosol Technology group (FINE, http://www.uef.fi/en/web/fine/ ) at the Department of Environmental and Biological Sciences.
The FINE Laboratory has two main research areas: 1) nanotechnology research and 2) combustion and emission research. The research carried out in the group is interdisciplinary involving the synthesis, characterization, modelling and application of novel materials. The laboratory is among the top aerosol technology groups in the world and offers a unique environment for strong collaborative interdisciplinary research and productive co-operation.
The Postdoctoral Researcher/Project Researcher position is focused on the research and development of new methods to create biomass based carbon nanostructures for energy storage and water treatment applications. The applicant should be familiar with the characterization methods including Raman, electron microscopy, UV-Vis, XRD, etc. Practical and professional experience in the field of carbon nanostructure synthesis will be an advantage.
The successful candidate is expected to be able to design and execute processes independently, but also to be able to work in close collaboration with other team members. The applicant should have excellent command of written and spoken English.
To be appointed as a postdoctoral researcher, applicants must hold a suitable doctoral degree (in material science, chemistry, physics or in another relevant field) which may not have been completed more than five years ago at the time of accepting the position. In this context, the 5 years refer to a net period of time, which does not include maternity leaves, parental leaves, or military service, etc. If the applicant has been awarded his or her doctoral degree less than five years ago, the post will be one of a Postdoctoral Researcher.
