Innovative Participative Models for City Development Processes

The candidate will become part of a transdisciplinary consortium of researchers associated with the Centre for Sociological Research within the Faculty of Social Sciences, more specific the social research methodology group and the social policy and social work research group.

Project
We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated employee to carry out research at the crossroads of public sociology, social geography and creative, methodological innovation. Among other things, the candidate will study how we can reconcile the economic interests of policymakers who invest in the design of urban districts with social and ecological objectives in the development of urban communities. To this end, the researcher will map out the changing dynamics in community life, including attention to virtual and fleeting forms of connections that further challenge the geographical notion of the concept of 'community'. We expect that the candidate will be able to help rethink and shape the concept of participatory or co-creative processes, in function of the development of a theoretical, methodological apparatus for professionals and policymakers who want to contribute to the co-creative design of a sustainable, inclusive city of the future.

Profile
Profile of the candidate:

  • You should preferably have a master's degree in human sciences.
  • You have a strong interest in or experience with qualitative research methods and would like to specialise further in this area.
  • You have a passion for community-based research and working with vulnerable populations.
  • You make contacts quickly, are independent, and enjoy working with others.
  • You speak and write Dutch fluently and can express yourself in English.
  • Knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas is a plus: fieldwork studies, visual research, artistic creation, qualitative data analysis, new materialistic, post-human or critical theories.
  • You are willing and able to spend 10% of your time on providing educational support to Dutch speaking students.
